Be the change I want at the school pickup.

The school drop off and pick up used to be a bit uncomfortable. Last year my daughter was in pre-kindy and there were only 5 other children in her class. Myself and 5 other parents would stand outside their classroom waiting for the teacher to open the door and awkwardly talk to each other, trying not to go over the boundaries of casual parent talk. It was never my forte. And it always made me a bit anxious and highly self-conscious.

But it is my reality, and I have many, many more years of this.

So, when the new school year started there were now 15 other students in her class, and so the amount of parents has also tripled. But I’m trying something different. I’m trying to be not just more friendly, but more extroverted, and more intentional. I’m putting my big girls underwear on and be the extrovert I know must be hidden inside me. I’m being intentional. I’ve started initiating small talk with other parents, and introducing myself and asking what their name is as well. Because when you know someone’s name, it changes the dynamic.

Lord, help me to be the confident person you call me to be. Help me not to be stuck, or scared, but help me to be outgoing, intentional, and friendly.
